Neuros: The Neurodivergent Person’s Experience of Finance

From September 2020 to May 2021 I worked part-time as a Product/UX/UI Designer & Researcher at Neuros, a young aspiring fintech product-led startup for neurodivergent people.

Process

Secondary research has shown that people with neurodivergences have more trouble managing money due to emotional disregulation and cognitive differences.

Each of these aspects inform a different aspect of the product.

When I joined the startup, they had a partially developed concept and an assumption. I transformed this into a testable concept to initiate early research. Within days, I created a basic yet functional prototype for remote moderated testing.

I led the entire UX research process, from defining hypotheses and objectives to drafting consent forms and conducting sessions with neurodivergent early adopters. After analysing coded transcripts, I facilitated an Affinity Mapping workshop to translate insights into actionable results.

To deepen engagement, I designed and led a public community workshop, providing a safe space for co-design. Insights from the first testing round informed a refined prototype with two interaction models for further testing.

Recognising a lack of clear value proposition, I initiated a remote team workshop to define this and shape the MVP strategy. Simultaneously, I studied the “Hook” model to create an engaging, non-addictive digital experience.

I proposed a gamified system for mindful financial management, blending mindfulness practices with finance—drawing from my experience as a certified yoga and meditation instructor.

My competitor analysis revealed that most finance apps feel transactional and one-sided. In contrast, our approach aimed to enable both the user and the app to evolve together.
